Find your extreme side and go all the way with Iguana Mama. Enjoy a series of spectacular waterfalls with the rain forest canopy above you and azure water below you'll feel your senses come alive as you experience natures perfect water park.
Full 27 Falls of Damajagua
Cascading. The original and best known of the area's falls. Starts with a moderate hike of around 60 minutes that leads up to the top of the falls where the real fun begins as you jump, slide and swim your way back down to base camp, emerging with a silly grin on your face and memories to cherish!
After the tour enjoy an authentic Dominican lunch before heading back to your hotel. Total river time approx. 2.5 hours. Jumps of up to 8m/25ft but don't worry, the big jumps all have walk arounds if you don't feel comfortable with the heights. Iguana Mama is the only tour company that goes all the way to No.27. Small groups with Iguana guides and no tourist traps ensure a quality experience. Important note: The name 27 "Waterfalls" is actually a mistranslation from the Spanish word "Charcos" that means pools not waterfalls, there are only in fact a total of around 12 actual waterfalls even on the full trip to number 27.
Midway 12 Falls of Damajagua
For those who feel the hike to the top may be a bit challenging you can simply go the 12 Falls and still enjoy the fun of jumping, sliding and swimming back to base camp. If you change your mind while at the falls, you may pay $20 per person in cash to the guide and go all the way to the top!
Cascading. For those looking for something more physical and right off the beaten path. We start the day meeting our guide at Iguana Mama at 7.45am before picking up breakfast to eat while we drive the 45 minutes to base camp. Here is where we meet the other guides and get you geared up in wetsuit, harness, helmet and life preserver. A quick safety briefing is followed by 5 more minutes van time before we hike down into the canyon. Approximately 12 jumps of up to 10m/30ft. Total river time approx. 2.5 hours Emerging from the river it's a 20 minute steep climb to the donkey meeting point and a further 25 minutes back to case camp. Enjoy a delicious Dominican lunch before the drive back to Cabarete, arriving at around 2:30pm.
Highly recommended! Help the local community and your legs by hiring a donkey for the hike out (approx. 45 minutes uphill) The cost is US$10.00 per donkey with the money going directly to the donkey's owner.
Canyoning. Canyoning differs to cascading in that it involves rappelling and is therefore slightly more technical and a little slower paced We start the day meeting our guide at Iguana Mama at 7.45am then drive the 45 minutes to base camp. Here is where we meet the other guides and get you geared up in wetsuit, harness, helmet and life preserver. A quick safety briefing is followed by 10 more minutes van time before arriving at the canyon entrance. The trip starts with a couple of easy jumps before we come upon the highlight of the day, the Magic Mushroom itself. Two intense rappels are followed by some great jumps that can be walked around if you are just in it for the rappels. For adrenaline junkies the second rappel can be jumped and at 15m/45ft is enough for most people! After a couple of hours in the river and a 20 minute hike out to the transport we're ready to head for lunch and the drive back to Caberete, arriving at around 2:00pm.
Transport etc. is the same as for the canyoneering tours above but Rappeller's Delight offers the best of both worlds as it combines two tours , one canyoning and one cascading. Starting off with 6 rappels which are normally dry unless we've had a lot of rain, we then join the main river for part of the Ciguapa Falls section. Here you'll leap off a series of waterfalls of up to 10m/30ft and then hike out for lunch before heading back to Cabarete, arriving at around 3.00pm.
Highly recomended! Help the local community and your legs by hiring a donkey for the hike out (approx. 45 minutes uphill) The cost is US$10.00 per donkey with the money going directly to the donkey's owner.
Affectionately known as the "Super Big Bastard" this trip is advanced, challenging and definitely falls into the "extreme sport" category. A full day adventure that is in effect a combination of 3 tours (Magic Mushroom, Big Bastard & Ciguapa Falls) takes you deep into the pristine river valley, to places few have seen and even fewer have canyoneered. Rappels of up to 160 feet (55m) and at least a dozen exhilarating jumps of up to 60 feet (20m) await you. After aprox. 4 hours river time it;'s a 20 minute steep hike before we meet the donkeys (included) for the ride back to base camp and a well deserved Dominican lunch. Return to Cabarete is around 4.30pm. Don't plan anything for the following day!
