The North Coast is becoming increasingly popular for surfing due to its warm and safe surfing waters. Considered to be the best place to surf in the Dominican Republic, Encuentro, is just 10 minutes from Cabarete. It's a fantastic spot for beginners, as well as for those looking for something much more challenging. It's a great year round place to learn, even in the winter but if you are already a confident surfer the best time of year to visit is mid-December to April when the winter swells produce bigger waves. 

Iguana Mama work with the best local surf schools to ensure you have a safe, enjoyable learning experience. Surfing in the Dominican Republic is generally an early morning activity as the wind picks up in the afternoon making the surf is not so clean or "glassy".

Our lesson package includes round trip transport from Cabarete (see transport supplements from other areas below), three hours board hire including the first hours tuition with one of our instructors, lycra and reef shoes. We also offer board hire by the day or week and can provide transport only for friends and family who want to accompany people having lessons.
