Canyoning differs to cascading in that it involves rappelling and is therefore slightly more technical and a little slower paced. Highlights of the Magic Mushroom include 2 rappels of up to 160 feet and exhilarating jumps of up to 25 feet into deep pools of crystal clear water.

This is the original canyoning tour and the route is aptly named after the incredible principal waterfall on the trip, you can see why from the photos. The tour runs in one of the Dominican Republic's four important mountain ranges, the Cordillera Septentrional, which extends from the northwestern coastal town of Monti Cristi, near the Haitian border, to the Samaná Peninsula in the east. We start the day meeting our guide at Iguana Mama 7.45am before picking up breakfast to eat while we wend our way up the 45 minutes to base camp. Enjoy the spectacular views as you ponder the delights awaiting you in the canyon. Base camp is where we meet the other guides and get you geared up in wetsuit, harness, helmet and life preserver. A quick safety briefing is followed by 10 more minutes van time before arriving at the canyon entrance. The trip starts with a couple of easy jumps before we come upon the highlight of the day, the Magic Mushroom itself. Two intense rappels are follwed by some great jumps that can be walked around if you are just in it for the rappels. After a couple of hours in the river and a 20 minute hike out to the transport we're ready to head for lunch stoked and hungry. Great news for the wind addicts is that we get you back in to Cabarete at around 1.30pm in time for an afternoon session wind surfing or kiting.

Included: Breakfast, drinks/snacks during the tour, Dominican lunch and all gear. You need to bring tennis or river shoes, something to wear under wetsuit, a towel and dry clothes. 

Rated: Beginner. With reasonable fitness previous experience is not necessary. Minimum age 12. Swimmers only
